You can always tell someone is from Ohio when they hear the word 'cornhole' and don't laugh like a little kid. If you are a resident of Illinois, Kentucky, or South Carolina, you have seen this game being played all over the place during the spring, summer, and fall. The game is known in other areas of the country as baggo, bean bag toss, or just bags. Whatever you call the cornhole game, most players find themselves in love with the sport from the moment they start playing. Why wouldn't it be so popular? Its a game that Grandparents can play with their Grandkids and something that anyone in any shape can play and excel at.

The history of the game is somewhat unknown, but it is widely circulated that it was started by farmers in Ohio. When most folks think of the game they recall playing a bean bag toss game or something similar when they were kids. The object of the game is simple. Place the platforms around twenty-seven feet apart from each other and then have the two opponents alternate tossing their cornhole bags at the opposing platform. Each player throws four bags a piece (4 colors to one team and 4 to the other) until you've thrown all eight bags. A bag in the hole is worth 3 points and one on the board is worth 1. You tally all the points on the board and the team with the most points gets to add the difference to their score.

You can opt to purchase the boxes online or you can pull out your wood, hammer, and nails and make the boxes on your own. Regulation boxes measure 4'x2' and are made with 1/2" plywood and have a 6" hole cut towards the top of the board. A lot of online retailers will offer portable cornhole boards that fold up for easier travel. In some areas of the country, namely Chicago, it is popular to use smaller boards measuring 3'x2'. As you probably guessed, a smaller target makes for harder game play. But, the big advantage to playing on these boards is that they can fit into your vehicle with ease and that makes for easy portability. The bags are pretty simple to make, they are filled with 14-16 ounces of feed corn and they measure 6 inches x 6 inches.

Since the sport has really started to take off, large tournaments are being hosted every year with more and more being added season after season. In Ohio, the largest cornhole tournament was even televised and had thousands of entries from people wanting to showcase their dominance. For many, the tournaments are a way of finally seeing how good they really are. It has always been hard to see how good you really were when you're only playing with your neighbors on your homemade cornhole sets. These organized tournaments allow players to measure themselves against the best and most talented players in the area.

Product developers have come to the rescue and met the desires of the fast growing sport. Most cornhole players have either left the bags in the rain or had an animal get inside their bags, well a new company has solved that problem by developing weather resistant cornhole bags which are filled with plastic pellets as opposed to corn. Other companies are coming out with various scoretowers so you don't have to rack your brain trying to remember the count of the game. Although its growing fast, many folks are simply drawn to the game because of its simple concept and nature. There isn't quite as enjoyable as playing bags on a summer evening with friends, perhaps that's why the game is so popular.

If you have had cats or even dogs, most probably you know about the pet supplies store. You can also purchase bird houses from there.
